NYS wind energy updates: Iberdrola, Horse Creek, NY PSC

Iberdrola-Energy East

Albany Times Union reports that in light of the the Iberdrola-Energy East proceeding, NY Assemblyman Joseph Morelle (D-Irondequoit) says that he is preparing new legislation on the NY Public Service Commission (PSC) and its staff.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports that Sen. Charles Schumer (D.-N.Y.) will meet with the Chair of the NYS Public Service Commission (PSC), Garry Brown, to discuss Iberdrola’s proposed acquisition of Energy East. Schumer has been a vocal critic of PSC staff and of Administrative Law Judge Rafael Epstein’s recommended decision to nix the deal, or approve with significant conditions.

Horse Creek Wind Farm

Watertown Daily Times reports that Iberdrola Renewables has acknowledged that it suspended its Horse Creek Wind Farm project in part because of its proximity to an Indiana bat hibernation locale. Indiana bats are a protected species and have been terribly affected by “white nose” syndrome.
