Thomas Friedman criticizes lack of federal energy policy

According to Friedman in a 4/30/2008 New York Times opinion piece, “…for almost a year now, Congress has been bickering over whether and how to renew the investment tax credit to stimulate investment in solar energy and the production tax credit to encourage investment in wind energy… [The credits] for wind and solar have been left to expire this December.”

In an 88-8 overwhelmingly bi-partisan vote (on H.R. 3221), the U.S. Senate passed on April 10, 2008 a one-year extension of the production tax credit (PTC) (through December 31, 2009) . Action by the House (and signing by the President) is necessary to see the extension become law.
